Our experience
Having always known it was there, but always somehow missing it out, we decided after a weekend away and nothing in the fridge, that we’d eat out at The Oppo. We were quite surprised when we went inside as we had imagined it to be quite plush. I suppose purely because of its location. Instead, it was very pleasant but with basic décor, lots of wooden tables and chairs and theatre posters plastered on the walls.
We opened the menu and were surprised again, to see the good range of meals and at a very reasonable price. We decided to go for the fishy starters, mussels and King prawns in garlic butter. The mussels were good and the King prawns were delicious but I had to wait a while before I could even touch them as they were very very hot... beware! I then went for the steak which was perfectly cooked as requested and my husband had the ham and cheese stuffed chicken. The chicken was great but the cheese seemed to have evaporated in the cooking process!
The service was polite and efficient throughout although we weren’t checked on mid courses. In a weird way though we didn’t expect to be, it was not your top end Stratford restaurant. It was just a warm and friendly, no frills place to eat out. The food was enjoyable and very good value for money too. All in all, a lovely night out, The Oppo… The poor mans Lambs.
