Our experience
My friend Sarah and I were meeting for lunch and having both lived in the Stratford area for years realized that although we'd staggered up the stairs to Oscars late night wine bar on many occasions, we'd actually never been in down stairs. It has the perfect black and white façade which attracts all the tourists so we were expecting something quite 'twee'. We were both a little shocked when we got inside to see a much larger floor space than we imagined and also to be confronted with the nearest thing to a greasy spoon café that Stratford has to offer. We nearly went out again, but decided to stay purely for the purpose of this review.
We were so glad we did.
O.K., so it's a little rough around the edges, but the food was excellent, and very well priced. (I had a goats cheese and roast vegetable Panini and Sarah had scampi and chips). The menu was really comprehensive with great breakfasts to boot. We both decided that a good fry up the morning after a night upstairs was probably a good idea!
So..don't pop in and walk out again. I wouldn't take anyone there whom I wanted to impress, but for good, honest, cheap food with friends who don't give a monkeys, then it's a top Café. I'll be going back.
